Glacial Lake Missoula

About 12,000 years ago, Missoula and the valleys of western Montana were under water due to a large ice dam forming what is now referred to as Glacial  Lake Missoula.  At the following websites, read the stories about the ice dams and the resulting floods and how the soils from western Montana created the wine industry in the states of Washington, Oregon and Montana.
